BOARD REPORT

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
CEEF Commits $1.8 Million to Arts & Innovative Technology

Last November, the CEEF board proposed the most significant funding plan in its twenty-two year history:$1.8 million toward district arts and innovative technology programs over the next three years. The plan was developed to support the district’s ambitious technology upgrade, teacher professional development, and innovative technology pilot programs

District Technology Upgrade CEEF’s one-time $250,000 grant toward the district’s technology upgrade will enable the district to elevate all schools to a standardized operating system and provide software that will assure all schools the ability to meet district technology benchmarks.

Professional Development Customized to Support Individual Site Technology Plans : In conjunction with the district technology upgrade, CEEF has allocated $1,000 per school site over the next two years to underwrite half-day integrated technology workshops through the Krause Center for Innovation that will include the cost of half-day substitutes to release a maximum of 10 classroom teachers per school representing grades 4-8.Workshops will be customized to support the specific instructional goals of the individual sites’ Technology Plans.

Professional Development – Summer Technology Institute: Following up on the customized site-based integrated technology workshops, CEEF has proposed to provide $150,000 over two years to fund a district Summer Technology Institute in August 2008 and August 2009 that will provide classroom teachers with the technology resources as well as the training to integrate innovative technologies into classroom curriculum.

Innovative Technology Instructional Pilot Programs: CEEF has also budgeted $100,000 a year for school years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 to support innovative technology pilot programs. It is hoped that the lead-time will allow the district to study and develop plans for potential pilot programs that will build on the initial technology upgrade investment.

In the coming year, I will look forward to enjoying implementation of the first phase of CEEF’s funding plan. If you have any suggestions or questions about CEEF’s proposal, please contact Executive Director Eleanor Watanabe at 408 446-2333 or email her at innovate@ceefcares.org.

Sincerely,
Larry Dean, President
