FACT SHEET

The Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation (CEEF) is a community foundation which seeks to create opportunities for involvement and giving for the perpetual educational benefit of students in the Cupertino Union School District.

How did CEEF build its endowment?
CEEF was incorporated in 1984 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation, and soon after bid for, and was able to acquire a Cupertino Union School District surplus school site, develop it and sell it at a profit. Proceeds from this creative project provided the cornerstone for a significant endowment that has grown today in excess of $10 million. Funds distributed annually to the district represent income from the endowment.

How much money has CEEF granted to the district over the past decade?
CEEF has granted $10 million to the district over the past decade and committed $1.8 million over the next three years to sustain music and art in elementary classrooms and encourage innovative applications of technology at all schools.

Is CEEF an independent organization?
CEEF is completely independent of the Cupertino Union School Board of Education and district management; however, CEEF works closely with the school board and the district, and funds only those projects in line with district priorities.

What types of programs has CEEF funded?
Several areas of critical need have been identified by CEEF: literacy, math and science; visual and performing arts; and innovative applications of technology. The Foundation will continue to focus on districtwide implementation of promising programs, as well as staff training and acquisition of educational resources for all district schools.
